With the Internet of Things (IoT) and the development of sensor technology, more and more devices are becoming IP enabled and connecting to the copper horizontal cabling infrastructure. Most of these devices such as IP security cameras, building automation controls, and Wi-Fi access points include an integrated RJ45 port for connecting to the network. These are resulted in the practice of installing Direct Connect links using Field Termination Plugs or PoE compliant patch cord connect directly to devices. TIA standards will call this topology “Modular Plug Terminated Link” or MPTL in TIA-568.2-D, which should be available late in 2018.

Before, installers used regular Cat,6 and Cat.6A modular plugs to terminate horizontal cabling. This termination is not easy, time consuming, yields unpredictable performance results. Also, these plugs do not accommodate the larger conductors utilized in 22 or 23AWG cabling. The increasing data rates of wireless access points and other devices require a 500Mhz or higher cabling link with DC power to support fast Power over Ethernet, field termination plug, or JE’s patch cord is the most perfect and practical solution. Both of shielded (die-casting) and unshielded systems, JE is ready to serve these two Direct Connect deployments.
