Beschreibung

The Nordic Thingy:91 is an easy-to-use battery-operated prototyping platform for cellular IoT using LTE-M, NB-IoT and GNSS. It is ideal for creating Proof-of-Concept (PoC), demos and initial prototypes in your cIoT development phase.

Thingy:91 is built around the nRF9160 SiP and is certified for a broad range of LTE bands globally, meaning the Nordic Thingy:91 can be used just about anywhere in the world. The cellular communication can be interleaved elegantly with GNSS positioning acquisition making it perfect for sophisticated asset-tracking product ideas. The kit comes preloaded with a sophisticated asset tracking application.

The kit is packed with a multitude of sensors for motion, impact, air quality and much more. The nRF Connect SDK supports Thingy:91 and there are examples for all sensors and connectivity functionality.

There is an nRF52840 multiprotocol SoC on the Thingy:91. This offers the option of adding Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity to your project ideas.

The Nordic Thingy:91 comes complete with a global use SIM card from iBasis that has a free 10 MB data plan to get you up and running immediately. The Thingy:91 and SIM can be provisioned and monitored using nRF Connect for Cloud which is Nordic Semiconductor’s cloud demonstration, evaluation and test platform.

nRF Connect SDK

nRF Connect SDK is a scalable and unified software development kit for building products based on all our nRF52, nRF53 and nRF91 Series wireless devices. It offers developers an extensible framework for building size-optimized software for memory-constrained devices as well as powerful and complex software for more advanced devices and applications. It integrates the Zephyr RTOS and a wide range of samples, application protocols, protocol stacks, libraries and hardware drivers.

For developing Bluetooth Low Energy, Thread and Zigbee products, the nRF Connect SDK contains all needed software, including protocol stacks. For developing cellular IoT products it contains everything except the LTE modem firmware that must be downloaded separately from our nRF9160 SiP product page.

nRF Connect SDK also offers an unique integration of HomeKit Accessory Development Kit for developing products using both HomeKit over Thread and HomeKit over Bluetooth Low Energy. It is a highly optimized solution that enables battery-powered products with both the HomeKit Accessory Protocol (HAP) and application firmware running on a single chip. MFi licensees can get access to the HomeKit repository by contacting us via Nordic DevZone private ticket.

nRF Connect SDK offers a single code base for all our devices and software components. It simplifies porting modules, libraries and drivers from one application to another, thus reducing development time. By enabling developers to pick and choose the essential software components for their application, high memory efficiency is guaranteed.

nRF Connect SDK is publicly hosted on GitHub, offers source code management with Git and has free nRF Connect for VS Code and SEGGER Embedded Studio IDE support. Nordic runs continuous integration tests on the nRF Connect SDK code to ensure robust and secure production quality code.

nRF52 Series and nRF5340 SoC

The nRF52 Series is a family of wireless multiprotocol System-on-Chips (SoCs) offering a broad selection for any product requiring Bluetooth® Low Energy, Bluetooth mesh, Thread or Zigbee
connectivity. All family members are extremely advanced and energy efficient, but have different feature sets and memory configurations.

All the SoCs integrate a powerful yet efficient 64 MHz Arm Cortex-M4 CPU, with a floating-point unit (FPU) and an instruction cache on the higher-end SoCs. Flash memory range from 192 KB to 1024 KB while RAM range from 24 KB to 256 KB.

The nRF52 Series SoCs support an extensive range of wireless protocols, offer excellent RX sensitivity and TX power up to 8 dBm. All SoCs support Bluetooth Low Energy and are capable of high-throughput 2 Mbps in addition to features introduced in Bluetooth 5.2. A selection of the devices also supports Bluetooth features such as Direction Finding and Long Range. Mesh protocols like Bluetooth mesh, Thread and Zigbee are supported, and can on the higher-end devices run concurrently with Bluetooth Low Energy. This enables smartphones to provision, commission, configure and control mesh nodes. NFC is available to wake up the devices from sleep or to securely pair out-of-band (OOB).

The nRF5340 is the world’s first wireless SoC with two Arm® Cortex®-M33 processors. The combination of two flexible processors, the advanced feature set, and an operating temperature up to 105 °C, makes it the ideal choice for LE Audio, professional lighting, advanced wearables, and other complex IoT applications.

The nRF5340 is an all-in-one SoC, including a superset of the most prominent nRF52® Series features. Features like Bluetooth® 5.3, high-speed SPI, QSPI, USB, up to 105 °C operating temperature, and more, are combined with more performance, memory and integration, while minimizing current consumption.
