An exceptional Cool Touch Surface Design housing material is made possible by polycarbonate, which is known for its limitless design possibilities. Polycarbonate, distinguished for its exceptional light transmission, its diverse color options and the possibility of surface texturing, was already a versatile all-rounder. With the integration of the Cool Touch property, its potential is now even greater. Makrolon® TC, our thermally conductive polycarbonate, has become a cornerstone in thermal management for electronic devices and automotive applications and now also enables a luxurious product experience through its Cool Touch Surface.

Swappable electrical and electronics (EE) demonstrator covers show our customers how in-mold electronics (IME) can be integrated into their applications. Embedded electronics will allow future plastic devices to become smaller and more intuitive for users.

One example of this is the Nighthawk Demonstrator. We developed this application in collaboration with TactoTek using Makrolon® polycarbonate and Makrofol® polycarbonate films. The demonstrator features an OLED screen, capacitive touch buttons and a slider, as well as vertical and side-emitting LEDs, all integrated into a super-thin, sealed polycarbonate structure.

Covestro is partnering with innovation leaders along the EV value chain to make electric car charger materials reliable, affordable and more sustainable. Our Makrolon® polycarbonate resins and Bayblend® polycarbonate blends can be used in charger housings, front covers, display lenses, light guides, connectors for both indoor and outdoor charging stations.

Polycarbonate (PC) resins are inherently robust, uniting excellent dimensional stability, good impact resistance and UL94 flame retardancy, along with electrical insulation properties that can be tailored to meet product safety standards.

The new Wallbox Design Demonstrator uses Covestro’s Makrolon® RE and Makrofol® material solutions in combination with design technologies from LEONHARD KURZ and injection molding technology from Sumitomo (SHI) Demag. The partners visualized together sustainable charging in a "vehicle-to-grid" concept. This means that the vehicle battery is used as a buffer storage unit that releases electricity to the grid to compensate for power fluctuations.

• Makrolon® TC: Maximized thermal conductivity for plastic solutions, enabling the replacement of metals in heat sinks with less weight, more design freedom, and energy-efficient production.

• Makrolon® FR: Flame retardant variants of LED, DQ, RW, and TC products for high demands on light and safety. Special solutions are also available for the high requirements in rail, aircraft or other public transportation sectors.
