Fiber in the Home - data network technology
Description
Fiber in the Home - data network technology
FTTH is the abbreviation for "Fiber to the Home" and means that data transmission from the exchange to the customer's connection is completely via optical fiber. A fiber-optic house connection is installed in the building, whereby the cabling within a house/apartment runs via copper cabling from the provider's network connection device. For the user, data rates of 10 Gbit/s and above are possible. However, if a broadband access is available, a high-performance network solution is the necessary prerequisite. To ensure that the bandwidth can also be used optimally, structured network cabling is essential.
From FTTH to FITH
The owner of the network (e.g., municipality or special-purpose association) lays a fiber-optic line to the home (network level 3) as part of the network expansion. The line ends, for example, in the basement with the APL house transfer point. From network level 4 (house distribution | network level 5 apartment distribution), the provision of suitable cabling is the responsibility of the house owner, and installation is carried out by an installer.
