As an international trend show, the Designplus Award by Light + Building honors innovative products, pioneering systems or ideas from the entire product spectrum of the world's leading trade fair for lighting and building services technology.

By participating in the Designplus Award by Light + Building, Messe Frankfurt offers exhibiting companies the exclusive chance to shine the spotlight on their ideas. Together with the new partner Stylepark, magazine & platform, for architecture and design, an extensive programme has been organized for the award winners, including a special show, awards ceremony and communication programme.

Four new categories have been developed to cover the entire spectrum of Light + Building:

  • Light + Creation PLUS
  • Sustainability + Efficiency PLUS
  • Smart + Connectivity PLUS

With the additional category "Sustainable Exhibition Stand", Messe Frankfurt is for the first time offering a platform to those companies that have integrated and implemented the topic of sustainability as an essential component of their stand concept and at the same time promote environmental responsibility in connection with trade fairs.

The Designplus Award jury is made up of experts who are very familiar with the top themes at Light + Building. During the jury meeting on 2 February, 33 nominees with outstanding design achievements were selected from well over a hundred submissions. From technical luminaires to lighting components and smart building automation to security technology - the Designplus Award will be presented among all exhibition areas of Light + Building 2024 and will put the winners in the spotlight during a festive award ceremony.

On the first day of the fair, 3 March, the Designplus Awards by Light + Building was announced at 1.30 p.m.
In cooperation with Stylepark, magazine & platform for architecture and design, Messe Frankfurt will present the awards. All award-winning products will be on display in a special show in the passageway of the foyer in Hall 5.1/6.1 for the entire duration of the fair.
On 4 March, jury member Prof. Amandus Samsøe Sattler (ensømble studio architektur, President DGNB e.V) will discuss the topic “What factors are essential for a sustainable building sector?” with the editor-in-chief of Stylepark, Anna Moldenhauer. DESIGN INTERACTIVE: sketching the future

Live Sketching

Organizer: VDID Verband Deutscher Industrie Designer e.V.
Date: 03. – 08.03.2024
Location: Foyer Halle 5.1

At this interactive live sketching event, VDID members show live in front of an audience how designers develop ideas and bring them to life. Design sketches serve to communicate ideas and approaches and inspire coordination with those involved in the development process. The resulting sketches are real eye-catchers and gradually fill large pinboards.

Industrial design is a multifaceted profession that works methodically and is committed to creating a future worth living in. Which topics and products are or will be relevant? The sketches and drawings created during the 5 days of the fair are intended to inspire. The dialogue with the Light + Building audience during the live sketching makes it possible to experience how design is promoted and made fun through creative exchange.

As an exciting live performance, this event complements the Designplus by Light + Building special show, both of which can be found in the Foyer Halle 5.1.

Light + Building Trends 2024/25

Stand of the Trends of Light + Building

Organizer: Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with Stilbüro bora.herke.palmisano
Date: 03. – 08.03.2024
Location: Design Plaza; Hall 3.1 F81

Light is an elementary component of the built world. It sets visual accents, ideally combines aesthetically with the architecture and at the same time fulfills functional aspects. Innovative technology enters into an exciting combination with forward-looking design. An outlook on the trends in 2024/25 is provided by the presentation of the trend bureau bora.herke.palmisano at the Design Plaza in Hall 3.1. The trend experts will be giving daily presentations on social influences and developments that will have an impact on luminaire design in 2024/25.

An accompanying trend presentation will show how this is reflected in concrete terms in colours, shapes and materials. Three key trends will play a role: WELCOME TOMORROW, EMBRACE SIMPLICITY and CREATE UNIQUENESS.

WELCOME TOMORROW

Ob mit ausgeklügelten Handwerkstechniken oder mit digitalen Technologien gearbeitet wird - Sinnliches und Visionäres, Magisches und Futuristisches findet in „Welcome Tomorrow“ immer wieder zusammen. (Quelle: Messe Frankfurt Exhibiton GmbH)

WELCOME TOMORROW combines magical lighting effects, fascinating designs with advanced technologies. The designers and developers ingeniously explore the innovative possibilities and create visionary designs. With stunning visual and illusory effects such as reflections, movement, unreal colour glow as well as sensory lighting effects, they create a hypnotic, supernatural aesthetic. Craftsmanship and sophisticated technologies come together consistently in the trendsetting designs.

EMBRACE SIMPLICITY

EMBRACE SIMPLICITY looks at the ever-growing awareness of beneficial designs and quiet arrangements. New design approaches open the view for holistic considerations: sustainable, functional and emotional are the results. Pure, natural, with structural and material sincerity, the authentic luminaire designs and the sustainable material developments are always associated with a story. Here, quality craftsmanship is just as much in focus as natural materials, imaginative experiments with alternative materials, modern manufacturing technologies and an unerring sense for the useful and the emotional.

CREATE UNIQUENESS

„Create Uniqueness“: Hier geht es um das Besondere, Einzigartige, Unvergleichliche. (Quelle: Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH)

CREATE UNIQUENESS unleashes the special, the "one of a kind", the incomparable. Here, diverse and special designs with a distinctly unique character come together in an eclectic mix. Striking shapes, expressive surfaces, unconventional designs - the interiors look like a select, curated collection of artistic pieces. The use of very different materials, which come together in unexpected, contrasting combinations, is also eye-catching. The spatial effects are charismatic: vintage appeal combines with clean modernity, craftsmanship with a free-spirited expression. In an inspiring dialogue between industry and craftsmanship, distinctive designs and stimulating compositional ideas emerge.

“The Light + Building trends 2024_25 take up the groundbreaking developments in the lighting sector and show a broad spectrum of resource-efficient manufacturing techniques, durable materials, traditional craftsmanship as well as modern, digital manufacturing technologies. The latest products meet sophisticated and specific design requirements and show the dialogue between the individual, the room and its lighting."

E-House of the Electrical Trades:

The building of the future is intelligent and networked

E-House

Organiser: ZVEH (Central Association of the German Electrical and Information Technology Trades)

Date: 03. – 08.03.2024

Location: Hall 11.0 C07/D07

The E-House of the electrical trades shows an impressive selection of smart functionalities and innovative building technologies on 100 square metres and thus not only provides a glimpse of what a sustainable and energy-efficient building could look like in the future. The model house also illustrates the wide range of services offered by the electrical trades, which have long included the installation of future technologies such as photovoltaics (PV) and heat pumps.

Regardless of whether the aim is to increase the energy efficiency of a property, improve living comfort or make your own four walls more secure – the E-House is the model house for smart living. In the E-House, state-of-the-art functions can be experienced in a playful way, as almost everything can be tried out here – from the intelligent lighting control system to the building's own energy management system and the kitchen cabinets that can be lowered by voice control to the sensor floor that registers falls and automatically calls for help. Yet what is being shown is not dreams of the future, but has long been technically feasible.

An important focus in the E-House in 2024 will be on the topics of "energy efficiency" or "sustainable energy supply" and "smart health". Among other things, an integrated energy management system will be on show, which incorporates the PV system, storage system and heat pump as well as charging infrastructure for e-mobility and controls the energy flows in the house according to the individual requirements of the residents.

The integration and sustainable use of renewable energies plays a central role in this. For example, the washing process of the washing machine is only started when sufficient solar power is available and the e-car has already been fully charged. Innovative functionalities can also be seen in the smart health area, such as a breathing air control for diabetes patients with alarm function, which ensures that help is quickly on the spot when critical values are reached at night.

Come and see for yourself at the E-Haus of the electrical trades in Hall 11.0 (Stand C07/D07).

Focus on innovative technologies and digital solutions: BTGA at Light + Building 2024

BIM stand

BTGA (The Federal German Industrial Association for Building Services and Technical Installations) will be presenting pioneering technologies and solutions in the field of technical building services at Light + Building 2024.

The focus will be on digitalisation in plant engineering. Visitors are invited to experience the diversity of the BTGA and its member companies at the booth (Hall 11/Portalhaus, level Via, stand B02).

Building Information Modeling (BIM): BIM by BTGA

BIM cave

The "BIM Cave" is at the centre of the trade fair presentation. A BIM cave enables all those involved in the construction process to check their designs in an immersive and realistic environment, make design decisions and view the construction project from different angles.

To bring the BIM Cave to life at Light + Building, the BTGA trade fair stand itself will become a BIM model. This involves creating a 3D building model for the BIM process. Visitors to the association's stand will have the opportunity to experience BIM live and discover the benefits of this digital planning method.

Lectures with discussion
At its stand, BTGA will also be offering a platform for specialist presentations and discussions in which experts from the industry will present current developments, challenges and examples of best practice.

ZVEI Forum
BTGA will be represented at the ZVEI Forum on 6 March 2024. The Technology Forum is a platform for professional dialogue between exhibitors and visitors. The focus of the presentations and discussion rounds will be on the electrification and digitalisation of the building sector.
