Sustainable Exhibition Stand

Zumtobel Group | Exhibition stand

Exhibition stand

Manufacturer: Zumtobel Group AG, Forum 0 A10
Design: Corporate Architecture & Design – Zumtobel Group

At this year’s Light + Building, particular emphasis was placed on a well-conceived architectural concept that harmoniously combines form, material and light – a space in which light becomes an experience, while at the same time reducing the carbon footprint, increasing energy efficiency and making use of reusable resources. The Zumtobel Group presents a design based on the principle of “embracing architecture” – a human-centred and welcoming approach.

  • Materials used:
    • FAÇADE FABRIC (all facades)
    • Samba® Green, made from recycled bottles und 100 % post-consumer-PET
    • OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified
    • Yarn certified according to the Global Recycled Standard, REACH-compliant
    • Coating free from PVC, heavy metals and phthalates.
    • ALUMINIUM PROFILES (structural supports)
    • Standard profiles 27×45 mm und 45×45 mm; approx. 90 % reusable and returnable to the manufacturer
    • TIMBER PERGOLA STRUCTUR
    • PEFC-certified spruce (GL24) in NSI surface quality, with 55×500-mm-profiles.
  • Modular design: The design of the exhibition space places particular emphasis on modularity and allows for the quick and straightforward disassembly of individual components. As a result, up to 90% of the materials (by weight) can be reused. A detailed explanation can be found in the attached PDF.
  • Energy efficiency measures: With “Lighting & Beyond” – one of the Zumtobel Group’s digitalisation objectives – the development of smart building solutions is being accelerated, including connected lighting solutions as well as intelligent products and services. One example of this is the Litecom and LightingGO systems installed at Light + Building. Litecom enables the monitoring and control of the luminaires on display, including operational and temperature monitoring, condition analysis and lighting control.
  • Transport and logistics: Partnerships play a central role at the Zumtobel Group – not only in lighting solutions and product innovations, but also in architecture. For Light + Building, the company collaborated with Display International Schwendinger GmbH & Co. (Würselen, Germany). Their many years of experience with trade fair projects in Frankfurt, particularly at the Forum, enable efficient construction, smooth on-site operations and optimised reuse of resources.
  • Recycling and waste management: The carbon footprint is significantly reduced through the consistent application of reuse principles. Even at this stage, the footprint has been lowered by 76% through the integration of previously reused elements and materials within the concept. Following Light + Building, a further reduction of 21% will be achieved through planned reuse measures, both internally and in collaboration with suppliers and partners such as Trash Galore. Overall, the initial CO₂e balance will be reduced by 97% compared with a scenario in which all materials were newly procured.
  • Country of origin and materials: Reused materials originate from Austria, while new materials – including timber, substructures and media elements – are sourced primarily from Germany via Display International. The façade fabric and profiles are supplied by Typico. Trash Galore is responsible for the reuse of 18 tonnes of materials in Germany.

The Zumtobel Group’s trade fair presence stands out for the maximum transparency of its processes and the materials used, as well as for its consistently sustainable planning and implementation. The modular architecture enables the reuse of up to 90 per cent of the materials and significantly reduces the ecological footprint. Through resource-efficient construction methods and the human-centred approach of “embracing architecture”, it creates a welcoming experience that exemplarily combines responsible action with high-quality design.
