Luminaire Cabel Guy

Cable Guy

This luminaire cleverly plays with perception and is formally reduced to the essentials: a single cable runs horizontally along the floor, then mysteriously rises vertically upwards to power the lampshade with light.

The highlight lies in the illusion. What appears to be a continuous power cable is partly a narrow, precisely bent stainless steel tube with a diameter of 8 mm. The transition to a flexible 8 mm latex hose is skilfully concealed within the foot switch. The tube functions as both base and housing and is entirely covered with a black rubber hose, perfecting the illusion of a flexible cable. The lampshade is swivelling and height-adjustable. A ball joint allows flexible alignment, while a locking ring enables vertical adjustment. When lowered, the shade creates another fascinating effect: it appears to float like a small miracle within the space.

The electronic driver is discreetly housed within the plug casing, enabling this delicate construction. The power cable runs through the latex hose, the foot switch and the tube to the energy-efficient 12V LED ring in the lampshade. Minimal material usage with maximum impact.

Becoming a designer was a long and not always straightforward journey for me. I worked in many different jobs, yet none fulfilled me in the long term. I never stayed long – I always lacked a sense of purpose and inner conviction. The only thing that truly captivated me from the beginning and commanded my full attention was design.

At first, the idea of becoming a designer seemed almost unattainable – as though this path were reserved for only a few people. Yet my quiet inner voice grew louder year by year. My desire to become a designer kept growing. I began teaching myself how to design objects, studied Interior Architecture for three semesters, and finally decided in 2023 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Product Design at HfG Offenbach – not an easy decision at the time.

All the more grateful I am for the successes I have achieved since then, which confirm that I am on the right path. Since then, I have followed my true vocation and work as a designer with great fulfilment. What fascinates me most is the process in which a purely imaginary idea gradually takes shape and becomes part of our physical reality. Witnessing a thought turn into something tangible is at the very core of what drives me.

When I design, I listen to my heart. My creations emerge from deep inner conviction and wholehearted dedication. I am convinced that this is a value that can be seen and felt.
